Sarkis and Ardemis Yepremian, co-founders of Yepremian Jewelers, moved from Nahr-Mount, Lebanon to Cranston, Rhode Island with their two children in 1976. Sarkis’ skills as an artisan of jewelry began in 1952 at the age of 14 when he served as an apprentice to an established jeweler in Bourj-Hammoud, Lebanon. At the age of 20 he opened his own repair shop, and thus began the independent journey that has served as his livelihood ever since. The repairs he completed efficiently for a variety of jewelers reflected his tireless work ethic, as he also held contracts with Omega and Patek Philippe watch companies where Sarkis would design and craft gold and platinum watch bracelet bands.
Once he was acclimated in RI, Sarkis opened a repair shop in downtown Providence in a building on Weybosset Street in 1980. His reputation as a master repairman in the jewelry field quickly landed him contracts with prestigious jewelry retailers in Rhode Island. A short year later, Sarkis opened his first storefront business in Cranston on Reservoir Avenue where he offered a complete retail showroom in addition to his on-site, professional repairs.
Today, when you visit Yepremian Jewelers, Sarkis’ wife Ardemis and their daughter Victoria Bailey are available to assist you with sales. Their skills in creative design are an essential tool in ensuring customer satisfaction. To help the customers visualize their perfect piece, Ardemis or Victoria will draw a sketch that is representative of what can be ordered or made. Ardemis and Victoria also provide expert restringing of pearls or beads. Their passion for the trade is evident and reflected in their cheerful sales approach, as well their informative responses to customer’s individual questions.
Sarkis’ son Sebouh Yepremian has been involved in the family business since he was young. At the age of 14 he devoted his after school time to helping out around the shop, making certain all of the tools were in proper working condition and that there were adequate supplies available for his father to access easily on a daily basis. As time progressed, Sebouh's interest in the family business and admiration for his father's fine artisanship grew, and he was given greater responsibilities. He enjoyed watching his father hone a customer's piece until it was just right, and was excited to begin repairing pieces himself that would mirror his father's exceptional example.
After graduating from college he was eager to further his study, and enhance his knowledge of the jewelry trade that had been instilled in him since an early age. He enrolled in Gemological Institute of America in New York City where he obtained a Graduate Gemologist Degree. With a newly acquired expertise in diamond grading and colored stone grading, he returned back to the family business in 1994. Today, Sebouh works adjacent to his father in the repair shop and also runs the everyday buying and selling of diamonds and colored stones.
In the fall of 2011, Yepremian Jewelers completed the move to their elegant new store located in Clocktower Square on Rt. 5 in Warwick, where the tradition of excellence continues.
